Gulab Jamun

Gulab jamuns are deep fried sweet dumplings soaked in sugar syrup. It is a traditional dessert that is popular in many south asian countries. It is one of the sweet that you can make for any occasion. This soft, sweet and utterly addictive dessert is a must try!

Ingredients:
Dry Milk powder……. 1 cup
Self raising flour……. 1/2 cup
Cooking oil…………… 1 Tbsp
Semolina (Sooji) …… 1 Tbsp
(soaked in 1/4 cup water for 10 min)
Fresh milk or Fresh cream….. to make dough
Cooking oil …………..for frying gulab jamun

Sugar syrup:
Sugar…..1 1/2 cups
Water….. 2 cups
cardamoms…..6-7
yellow food colour…… a pinch

Recipe:
In a big saucepan add all the sugar syrup ingredients. Bring to a boil then turn the heat to low.
To make gulab jamun, mix dry milk powder, self raising flour, oil and sooji then keep adding fresh cream or milk very little at a time to make soft dough. Shape into oval or round balls and deep fry. Add to the sugar syrup directly and let simmer on low heat for 10 min or until doubled in size. Decorate with pistachios, almonds or whipped cream. Enjoy!
