Dinner Rolls

Bake your own super-soft, sweet and golden homemade buns with this simple recipe. It takes only a little hands-on prep while the yeast does all the work. This basic recipe is the only one you will ever need. It can be used to make a variety of pull-apart, fruity, cinnamon rolls etc plus it will fill your house with a delicious aroma!

The pictures I am using in this post are from my second attempt at making these dinner rolls. This time I have given them a spiral shape. I had made simple round buns the first time. If I have to compare both the shapes I would go for the round ones. They are easier to make and have a better texture because u don’t need to apply dry flour again n again for rolling and shaping them. You just have to make balls from proofed dough and that’s it! No rolling again n again 🙂 So go for simple ones if you like!

Step 1

Warm water 1 cup

Dry yeast 1 Tbs

Sugar 1/3 cup

Mix these ingredients and leave for 10-15 minutes in a warm place. Yeast water must be foamy and doubled after this time.

Step 2

All purpose flour (maida) 3 cups

Baking powder 1 tsp

Salt 1 tsp

Olive oil 2 tbs

Egg 1 large (slightly beaten)

Mix yeast water with the above ingredients and knead the dough for 8 minutes adding some flour at intervals so that it does not stick. Put dough in greased bowl and cover with cling film n leave for an hour to proof.

Step 3

Now make small balls. Use little bit of flour on hands so that dough does not stick. If you are making plain rolls then divide in 12 balls. If you want to make spiral ones then divide in 8 balls. These will give you 16 spiral rolls. Follow the photos for spiral rolls.

Step 4

Line the prepared rolls in greased tray or on butter paper leaving 1-1.5 inch space between them n leave for 40 mins. Bake in two batches if oven is small. In this case divide the dough in two equal parts and make balls from half dough. Make another batch after putting first batch in the oven. Bake at 375 degreeF or 190 degreeC for 22-25 mins. Give an egg wash (egg+ water) using a soft brush at half time.
